Otago Daily Times solves unique dispatch challenge with Dyno solution

The Otago Daily Times overcame a unique logistical hurdle with a clever conveyor system from Dyno, enabling the efficient and safe transfer of newspapers and pamphlets from their historic building to the dispatch area.

THE CHALLENGE

A specific logistical problem required a creative conveyor design for the Otago Daily Times.

The Otago Daily Times faced a specific logistical problem: how to transport newspapers from their two-storey brick building down to the dispatch area. This required a robust and reliable system that could handle the weight of the newspapers and the often harsh outdoor conditions of Dunedin.

The Solution

A unique system for a unique problem

Dyno devised an innovative solution comprising two Tranzbelt conveyors and a unique Ultraslip spiral chute. The Ultraslip chute, made from a super-slippery plastic, was key to the system’s success. It allowed for a less steep gradient than conventional chutes, ensuring the safe transfer of both heavy newspaper bundles and lighter pamphlet bundles. The system was also designed to withstand Dunedin’s low temperatures and outdoor environment.

The Result

Faster, safer and more controlled dispatch

The new conveyor system has provided the Otago Daily Times with a faster, safer, and more controlled method of transferring newspapers and pamphlets to the dispatch area. The robust and durable system, designed to handle Dunedin’s conditions, has significantly improved their workflow. Otago Daily Times’ Marty Patterson praised Dyno for their seamless communication, problem-solving approach, and the impressive functionality of the new system.

Customer testimonial

"It was all smooth sailing from the start."

“This time I needed something that was exclusive to Otago Daily Times (ODT) and our particular publishing needs. Dyno seemed an obvious option with the regular contact the sales consultants made with the office, and with a reminder by an advert in the trade magazine, I gave them a call.

It was all smooth sailing from the start. The team from Dyno came up, we talked through our needs, gave them a sample of what we wanted with the worst scenarios that could happen and they went away with it Dyno customised a system for ODT, including using their Tranzbelt conveyor system and a the unique Ultraslip product for the spiral conveyor – a super slippery plastic ideal for the job. After a bit of tweaking here and there, we awarded them the contract. Certainly price had something to do with it as the quote was cost-effective but the team delivered – not a problem.

There were never any issues during the process as most of it was done prior to manufacture. Dyno kept us seamlessly in the loop and we always knew where we were with them. This eliminated any potential stress. Our new Dyno conveyor system is robust, durable and looks impressive and most importantly does the job we intended it to do.”
